Abstract

We present the case of a teenage girl who presented with #hyperacutefulminant #hepatic failure after ingesting a potentially lethal dose of yellow phosphorous rat poison and survived. We review the literature and describe the clinical course of yellow #phosphorus poisoning, and focus on interventions appropriate to lower resource settings #N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) and good supportive care.

Abstract

Many causes contribute to #hyperventilation; however, the #pathophysiology involved is still unknown, and the skeletal origins of the condition have scarcely been examined. We present a case of a 20-year-old man with a history of hyperventilation and subtle lower back pain due to spondylolysis of the fifth lumbar #vertebra with grade I #spondylolisthesis. The duration and frequency of hyperventilation increased after performing physical modality and abated after discontinuing physical modality. We discuss the relationship and associated pathophysiology between #hyperventilation and spondylolysis, which is the first report in the literature. We suggest that physical therapy might be harmful for some patients with hyperventilation, because the hyperventilation might be a clinical manifestation of #dysplasticlumbar spondylolysis.

#Biodiversity of #mycobiota is getting more attention, since #fungi and their #metabolites represent the future alternatives of many currently used #chemicalcompounds. In this review, the fungal mycobiota associated with leaves of some plants were discussed comparing the literatures focusing on some economically important plants such as wheat, sugarcane, and some #medicalplants. Furthermore, the role of some fungi as promising small factories that could be used for industrial applications such as myco-diesel oil production, and agricultural applications such as plant growth promoters.

Abstract

We report #subtelomericdeletion of 20q13.33 and #duplication 22q13.33 resulting from unbalanced de novo translocation t(20;22) (q13.33;q13.33) in 6-year-old girl with mild mental disability, speech delay, #behaviouralproblems, growth delay, microcephaly,minor dysmorphic features,detected by MLPA and SNParray. Deletion spanning 1,6 Mb included, apart from ARFGAP1 and MYT1, genesKCNQ2 and CHRNA4, which are linked to #autosomal dominant epilepsy. Duplicated area included genes RABL2B, ARSA and SHANK3 spansapp. 190 kb and is associated with autistic #spectrum disorders, severe speech impairment,ADHD and #schizophrenia.Whereas the terminal deletion of 22q is known as Phelan McDermid syndrome, the duplication of the same region is not so frequently reported. Subtelomeric 20q deletions are rare, and deletions resulting from #translocation were reported only in a few cases.

Abstract

#Stress has long been considered one of the main #health problems of the modern world, especially as it interferes in the quality of life and the individual’s work. The #heartrate variability (HRV) has been studied as a non-invasive way to evaluate the stress level for its relationship with cardiac #autonomousregulation. In this work, we assess the relationship between HRV and the stress level of intensivists nurses. We analyse data from 31 #nurses that work in critical care units of assistance to adults and #pediatricpatients. By proper analysing the HRV applied in this study, it was possible to observe that after working there was a decrease of components of variability.

Abstract

#Cysticlymphangiomas of the adrenal gland are rare, benign lesions of #vascular origin with lymphatic differentiation. Most of these lesions are discovered incidentally during radiological imaging studies, #surgery or autopsy. As radiologic techniques have improved, adrenal cysts are discovered more often. We present a 49-year-old woman who was referred to our hospital with a growing #cystic mass located in the left suprarenal space causing left flank pain. The lesion had previously been described as a simple left renal cyst observed by ultrasound follow-up studies. Further characterization by magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) displayed a 7.0 x 4.0 x 4.6 cm left adrenal septated cyst. A #hormone secreting#tumor was excluded. An organ-sparing left #laparoscopicadrenalectomy was performed. Histopathological examination revealed a benign cystic lymphangioma of the left adrenal gland. The lining cells showed strong immunoreactivity for CD31 and D2-40 (podoplanin). Diagnostic features and surgical treatment of an uncommon lesion are discussed.

Abstract

LMWH is recommended by major consensus guidelines for both initial and long-term #anticoagulation in cancer-associated thrombosis. With improvements in imaging technology and extended survival duration of #cancer patients, more unique challenges are encountering. These include optimal duration of anticoagulant #therapy, management of incidental VTE, identifying #biomarkers that can predict recurrent VTE, treatment of recurrent VTE after initial therapy, the treatment of patients with concurrent bleeding or those at a high risk of bleeding, management of VTE in #intracranialmalignancies and the limitations of the novel direct oral anticoagulants.

The prediction of heterogeneous material properties in biomedical applications is becoming a major problem in cases with complex #microstructures and #multiphasematerials. Several branches in #medicine require accurate measurements, which can be achieved by means of #medicalimaging. They are non-destructive techniques to visualize the inside features of solid objects and for obtaining digital information on their three-dimensional #geometries and properties. Therefore, for relating the observed measurements to unknown physical parameters, through #medicalimaging reconstruction, inverse modelling approaches are advisable.

Abstract

The present study evaluates the risk of development of Type 2 Diabetes in the population of Jammu region of J&K using Indian #Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS). A detailed scoring pattern where in two modifiable (#waist and hip circumference) and two nonmodifiable #riskfactors (age and family history) were taken into consideration. The results confirmed that almost 50% of the studied population has a very high risk score towards development of T2D. Obese (62%) and pre-obese (56%) participants belonged to the high risk category according to IDRS. More diabetics (54%) compared to non-diabetics (35%) belonged to the high risk IDRS category.

Abstract

The interaction between #nitricoxide (NO) and #superoxide’s is critical in the development of pancreatitis. Previously, we reported on the up-regulation of oxidative stress and NO-synthase (NOS) in the human chronic pancreatitis and in an animal model of pancreatitis induced by #pancreaticduct ligation (PDL) in rats. We have shown that oxidative stress runs ahead of NOS up-regulation, which implies that the NO enhancement in the course of pancreatitis is likely to be an adaptive mechanism aimed at maintaining the homeostatic cellular level of the bioactive NO. Here, we report on the expression of NOS and oxidative stress markers (nitro tyrosine and 8-hydroxyguanosine) in the course of erulean-induced acute #pancreatitis in rats. We found that the pattern of superoxide’s/NO interaction in this model of acute pancreatitis is similar to that in the PDL-induced rat pancreatitis and in the human chronic pancreatitis.

This type of Endoscopic Saphenous Vein Harvester (EVH) has been utilized for more than 20 years in varying different models, gaining a great deal of experience worldwide [1-4]. As we start removing the Saphenous Vein with the “no touch” fundamental, using the #Endoscopictechnique, we are seeing a great #potential of this device for performance and much more advantageous than the competing devices in today’s market.

Abstract

In recent years, there has been a significant deterioration in the#health of children in different regions of Ukraine, which is manifested primarily by various morph functional #disorders. According to many scholars, the poor health of children and adolescents in Ukraine is due to inappropriate nutrition, lifestyle, unfavorable #socio-economic trends and unfavorable #environmental factors [1,2]. Therefore, the issue of health development is an important part of a comprehensive assessment of the schoolchildren’s health. According to the #scientific sources, a tendency towards a decrease in the number of physically healthy schoolchildren in both urban and rural areas has been noted [3]. The analysis of the #physicalhealth of Ukrainian schoolchildren also shows that students from the city and village have common patterns and differences that depend on their place of residence [3].

Abstract

With continued advancements in #medical technology, the focus of treatment develop can shift from making an operation possible to achieving better long-term outcomes, and this means a greater #emphasis on the accuracy of medical treatments. Threedimensional (3D) printing is becoming a more mature technology, and its use is becoming more widespread. In the field of orthopedic diagnosis and treatment, 3D printing offers advantages for the accurate preoperative design of a #prosthesis, the manufacturing of an individualized prosthesis, and simulating surgery [1-13]. The results of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and some other radiographic techniques provide the basis for fabricating structures via 3D printing. Several reports have described the use of 3D printing to model #complex fractures of the #pelvis and #acetabulum [14,15], and other studies [16,17] have used 3D printing to facilitate preoperative planning in patients with developmental #dysplasia of the hip.

Abstract


Background: Social support plays a crucial role in the management of #mentalhealth conditions such as #bipolar. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of bipolar relapse in patients at MTRH.
Methods: The study design that was used is a retrospective study which targeted bipolar inpatients at the mental unit in Moi Teaching and
eferral Hospital. Patients’ hospital records for the past 5 years were reviewed by use of a chart review. Results: The findings revealed that majority of the #patients agreed that #relapse affected their work, relationship with family, friends and colleagues.

Abstract

The technological progress caused that the ambulance cars are #audible-noise dampened. It’s very important that the emergency signal is very loud. Many publications described this exposure and #health consequences both to medical staff and #patients [1- 3]. The elements of cars like engine and suspension of vehicles can generate also infrasonic noise near audible frequencies. This problem was not described in detail in scientific literature. The sources of infrasound in ambulance cars are very numerous: engine and other #mobile elements, #suspension, tires and air movement. The levels of exposure to #infrasound depend among others from: vehicle speed, kind and quality of cars and roads and open or closed windows. It’s possible in many cases that this exposure can be higher in rural conditions (quality of roads and longer driving times and distances).

Abstract

From an evolutionary point of view, it is likely that #epigeneticmarkers arose as a means of protecting genetic information [1]. The primary epigenetic marker is DNA methylation and DNA #methylation would furnish a way to distinguish between ‘self’ and ‘foreign’ #genetic material as, for example, for the selective action of the restriction #endonuclease system in bacteria [2]. Such an epigenetic marker might plausibly have become subsequently recruited to enable the stabilization of alternative #phenotypic states in differentiated tissues of multicellular organisms, as envisaged by Waddington [3,4]. For terminally differentiated #tissues in which no further cell division takes place, such as CNS neurons, there is no mechanistic difficulty in retaining the status quo, but in order to maintain the stable differentiated phenotype of cells with identical genomes undergoing replication it is necessary for the epigenetic information to be duplicated. The significance of DNA methylation in conferring phenotypic stability to differentiated proliferating cells was proposed by Holliday and Pugh [5] and Riggs [6].

Abstract

Introduction: #Cardiovascular-disease (CVD) is the disease that is related to #heart, #blood and vessels. In Pakistan, prevalence data for the cardiovascular disease is sparse, and literature indicates that there is 30-40% of all deaths in Pakistan due to cardiovascular diseases Aziz et al.
Methods: This was descriptive cross-sectional study. Convenient sampling was used and data was analyzed by SPSS version 21.
Results: The findings of the research were good knowledge and (67%) high responses of correct answer were smoking is risk factor of CVD. The attitudes were negative, (28%) high correct response was “do exercise for good #health”. The practices were very poor regarding the risk-factors of cardiovascular diseases.

Three D surface technology is used to demonstrate to the patients the expected changes possible with a particular procedure. Abstract

This study was performed in three hospitals in Sudan to assess the values of entrance surface air kerma (ESAK) and kidneys’ dose for 55 pediatric patients whom their ages arranged between 1day-15years, underwent chest and #abdominal#radiographicexamination. The essential aim of this study was to evaluate the value of kidneys’ dose and compare the value of ESAK with the reference level for #diagnostic. The CALDose_X software was used to estimate these values by entering the exposure factors Kv and mAs, the output of the machine and information about the #patientage and gender. The dose of #kidney variated from hospital to another in same exam, these variations due to difference in setting of exposure factors to each patient, also to the difference in the output of machine. By comparing these values with reference level for diagnostic, it was found that in some hospitals the values are higher than the reference level for diagnostic.
