Abstract

Background: The purpose of our work was to study the #epidemiological, clinical features and risk factors of #erysipelas in Internal Medicine. Methods: Retrospective study including 86 patients with erysipelas collected at our department of internal medicine between 2005 and 2016.
Results: There were 44 men and 42 women. The average age of our patients was 57.77. Erysipelas mainly affected the lower limbs in 95.3% of cases. Fever was present in 47.67% of cases. General underlying conditions were dominated by #diabetes (55.8%), obesity (37.2%) and overweight (31.4%). Loco-regional favoring factors were essentially represented by lymphedema (18.6%), venous insufficiency (12.8%) and #arteritis of the lower limbs (12.8%). A local site of entry was identified in 83.7% of the cases. The average number of total favorable factors was 3.12. Laboratory findings revealed #leukocytosis in 66.3% of cases and CRP elevation in 77.6% of the cases.

Abstract

Introduction: #Transcutaneouselectroneurostimulation has been used for a long time in the treatment of #neuropathicpain syndrome in type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, the effectiveness of this method in treating other manifestations of the distal polyneuropathy of the lower limbs as a sensory and motor deficiency has been little studied.
Objectives: To study the dynamics of sensory and motor deficiency against the background of the use of high-frequency low-amplitude TENS (HL TENS) and low-frequency high-amplitude TENS (LH TENS) in the treatment of distal #polyneuropathy of the lower limbs in patients with type 2 #diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

#Cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality is rising in many developing countries. There are many reasons for the mortality. In this study, we applied the IMPACT model to examine how much of the increase in CVD mortality in Beijing and Shanghai, two biggest cities in China. Also, we explored the changes of cardiovascular disease risk factors and assessed the influence of medication treatments on CVD mortality. The patients were enrolled from 2004 to 2010. The result showed that there was an increasing #mortalityrate of CVD by a negative age gradient in men and women after 45 years old. Most of the prevalence of CVD in different risk factor groups had an increased trend from 2008 to 2010, such as high blood pressure (BP), diabetes mellitus (DM), stoke, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and coronary #heart disease (CHD).

Abstract

#Tenosynovitistuberculosis of the hand is a rare form of extra-pulmonary localization. we report an observation of localization of tuberculosis at the level of the clean sheath of the 5th finger of the hand.We emphasize the importance of the biopsy followed by an #anatomopathologicalexamination which remains the basis of the #diagnosis.An early diagnosis allows a well-defined medical treatment presenting complications.

Abstract

This past Memorial Day honored our brave patriots who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan War, but today we must not forget the noble obligation to help those still suffering. IAW-LI is hazardous for soldiers’ #health; this war-induced disease impacts multiple dimensions of everyday life, such as the ability to perform one’s job and the ability to exercise. We have conducted research on this disease and discovered soldiers suffering from this war-related #lunginjury have new onset asthma or fixed obstructed airways. We have reported titanium that is bound to iron in fixed #mathematical ratios of 1:7, which is extremely rare in nature, in the lungs of soldiers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop the optimal method for heart decellularization using for tissue engineering. Several different chemical methods have been studied for decellularized tissues including heart. Nevertheless, there are not certain results about which combination of these methods may provide the best #transplantable, effective scaffolds. In this study, a new modified #decellularization method has been applied to heart including different concentrations of ionic and non-ionic detergents. To observe decellularization results #histologicalanalysis were performed. As a result, it was observed that chosen detergent solutions at low percentile concentrations and in short time duration showed efficient performance. Histological analysis indicated that samples were nuclei free in all groups.

Abstract

#Laparoscopicsurgery is the standard approach for most #surgicaloperations because of its benefits for the patients, although it requires a significant learning curve. For this reason, the FDA established the need for certified laparoscopic training programs, supported by validated surgical simulators. Our #multidisciplinaryteam developed a virtual surgical simulator (eLap4D) based on: a low-cost and a realistic haptic feedback. This study presents the validation process of the eLap4D, performed through the construct and face validities.

Abstract

Due to many factors such as drug purity, #thermodynamicstability, manufacturability, and ease of handling, until now the #activepharmaceuticalingredients (APIs) in the pharmaceutical industry are mainly in solid or crystalline forms. However, these forms of APIs usually suffer from low solubility, low biological permeability, and polymorphic conversion, which lead to unsatisfactory #bioavailability and low efficiency of drugs. Active pharmaceutical #ionicliquids (API-ILs) are expected to solve these problems. Moreover, many investigations confirm that API-ILs can retain or result in increasing #bioactivity of the involved active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) [1-3].

Abstract

Multicentric multifocal infiltrating #ductalcarcinoma poses a different approach to diagnostic workup and treatment compared to unifocal breast cancers. This is significant especially when discussing lymph node involvement, biological receptor chemo-based therapy and breast conservative surgery. In this case, a patient presented with unilateral right bloody nipple discharge, diagnosed with multicentric #multifocalhormonereceptor positive infiltrating ductal carcinoma, and performed lymph node biopsy and simple mastectomy. The patient was then followed with #radiation therapy. We will discuss the different presentations of breast cancers and receptor status in multifocal breast #carcinomas and how we treated it from a surgical perspective.

Abstract

The place of taking measures on a dependent variable before treatment, hereafter labeled pretesting, in any type of research is described. It is particularly issues when behavior of the patients or subjects is a key interest. Pretests decrease the #internalvalidity of experiments (i. e., render them incapable of completely proving what they are intended to prove). The loss of internal validity may be great in some cases, and little or no loss in others, but just how much has been lost cannot be proven. Pretests are sometimes credited with demonstrating that #randomization has produced reasonably equivalent groups, but that is indexed by p, with equal accuracy whether or not pretests are employed. There are usually many sources of differences between subjects which could result in different outcomes on the dependent variable(s). The only valid index of whether an initial inequality of groups has produced a spurious result is p.

Abstract

Idiopathic #inflammatorymyopathies are rare connective #tissuedisorders, in which inflammatory process affects mainly skeletal muscles leading to their progressive weakness. However internal organs can be affected as well, #deteriorating the course of disease. We present cases of two patients with cardiac manifestations as predominant symptoms of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. In both cases #arrhythmia was the leading symptom preceding diagnosis of #myositis.

Abstract

The reconstruction of #maxillo-mandibulardefects following resection for tumors with autogenous #bonegrafts has been demonstrated to be a reliable technique with good long-term results. Implants placed in the reconstructed areas were demonstrated to integrate normally, with success and survival rates comparable to those obtained with #implants placed in native bone. The authors present an explicative case of this type of surgical and #prostheticrehabilitation.

The awareness of the actual position, #angulations and #inclination of the roots of the teeth as early as the bonding stage, might be a promising upgrade for the finishing stage. The current manuscript describes the image #fusion modality between the CBCT and digitally scanned model and the utilization of this procedure during the digital indirect #bondingtechnique. Utilization of the current digital technology in orthodontic bracket placement should improve and simplify the bonding stage and accordingly facilitate and make more accurate the finishing of the #orthodonticcase. The awareness of the importance of correct root position in orthodontics arose from the study of the normal occlusion population [1] and the orthodontic post-treatment relapse phenomenon due to improper root positioning [2,3].

Background: While surgery involves high #surgicalmortality and #morbidity in complex thoracic aortic diseases, surgical exposure is very important, and it is necessary to explore the area as wide as possible. Increased experience in minimal invasive surgery and advances in hybrid stent graft technologies allow us to perform easy and successful operations through a limited #incision area. A 39year-old male patient applied to our clinic with hoarseness and back pain complaints, and was diagnosed with chronic #Type-I aorta dissection.

Minimally #Frozen Elephant Trunk by Davut Cekmecelioglu in BJSTR

Abstract

#Diabeticfootulcers (DFUs) are the most common of the #plethora of complications arising from #diabetes. To date, clinicians employ visual inspection of the wound site during its standard 4- week healing process via monitoring of surface epithelization. Herein, a hand-held #nearinfraredopticalscanner (NIROS) has been developed for non-contact imaging of DFUs and differentiating between healing and non-healing ulcers based on differences in blood flow to the wound and its surroundings. Non-contact near-infrared area imaging of DFUs have been carried to obtain diffuse #reflectanceimages of the wound and its surroundings. These images were used to quantify optical contrasts between the wound and its surroundings. The variability in imaging conditions, analysis and operator dependency were assessed to determine the robustness of the imaging approach.
