Abstract

Pituitary apoplexy in children is extremely rare #clinicalsyndrome, and potentially lethal due to #adrenocorticotrophichormone (ACTH) deficiency. It is characterized by acutehaemorrhagic or infraction of the pituitary gland. We report a 13 year-old-boy who presented with acute headache, vomiting, and visual loss. He was diagnosed to have #macroprolactinoma, with acute haemorrhage into the mass by #magneticresoranceimage (MRI), and raised #serumprolactin. Serum ACTH, cortisol, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and free thyroxine (FT4) were low. This report aims to remind the general practitioners and the emergency practitioners of the initial assessment and management of pituitary apoplexy.

Abstract

A considerable amount of international research into Quality of Life (QOL) seeks to explain the determinants of #health and well-being as we age. Many older adults in Bhutan continue to live traditionally in socially integrated Buddhist communities. Popular understanding of health and QOL to some extent could be different from western populations. This qualitative study employed in-depth interviews with 30 older adults (aged 60 to 83 years). Content #analysis generated key themes. Finding indicated most older participants experience good QOL. Close family integration and interpersonal harmony, respect for the older people, spirituality, #chronichealth conditions and adverse childhood experiences, lack of education, insufficient income, and changes in the sources of practical help in the community influenced QOL.

Abstract

#NuclearReceptors are a superfamily of #transcriptionfactors that exhibit multiplefunctions in health and disease [1]. These receptors play essential roles in various physiological processes; including metabolism, immunity, developmental patterning and cell proliferation [2] typically nuclear receptors are activated bysteroid hormones, such as #estrogens, #androgens, progesterone, and various other lipid-soluble signals, includingretinoic acid, oxysterols, and thyroid hormone. The ligands can cross the #plasmamembrane anddirectly interact with the receptors in the cytoplasm, causing their translocation to the nucleus [3]. Within the nucleus, the receptors bind DNA and activatespecific responsive genes.

Abstract

The guru of #InformationScience, Eugene Garfield, was aghast as to “the terrible things journals do to us.” Personal examples of such grouses are given. The cure is prescribed in terms of the desirable practices of putting essential data on the first page. Thousands of reprints, which I requested for, from all over the world, were studied. It was forty of them that provided clues for evaluating the above surprising title. It was part of the title discussed sensitively by him in the weekly Current Contents in 1983 under “#Idiosyncrasies and Errors, or the Terrible Things Journals Do to Us.” As he instanced, “I had complained that even though the first page of every article included the journal’s name, date and pagination, the volume was omitted” [1].

“When a #fistula is developed the tendency is first not to do anything and see how serious it will get; and therefore, at the time the catastrophe’s total impact strikes, the patient is already septic, nutritionally depleted and presenting an extensive #cutaneousdestruction” Chapman [1]. Nutritional management is one of the most important factors when successfully treating gastro-intestinal fistulas Ellis H [2]. In 21 years of experience at the Caracas University Hospital’s (HUC) Nutritional Support Unit (NSU) Belloso R, Baptista GA [3]. It has been possible to confirm that employing exclusively nutritional support, there are more possibilities of fistulas closure that if employing combinations of #nutritionalsupport and #surgery; or to the contrary, only surgery - of those fistulas that are not of surgical closing -, this being also proven by other authors [3].

Abstract

India is well known as “Land of Spices” across the world since long back. We have been cultivating these precious spices for fulfilling our various needs since ages. Our ancestors have been using these seed spices for adding taste and flavor in #edibles and #beverages. It has been used in treatment of various ailments, which is evident from our old literature. These spices are collections of a wide variety of volatile and non-volatile staple dietary additives. These spices have been known for ages as effective therapeutic food. The power of seed spices to impart biological activity is now slowly re-emerging as an area of interest for human health. Nowadays people are moving towards #naturopathy because they don’t want to bear silently the aftermath of #allopathicmedicines. Now, time has changed and it’s high time for Ayurveda and #Unanimedicine system to regain its lost glory. In these systems, only natural products are used for preparing medicines, which don’t have any side effects.

Abstract

#Hydroxyapatite with #nanoporousstructure is a valuable #biomaterial to enhance the efficiency of adsorption based biomedical applications, i.e., drug delivery and protein adsorption. In this study, nanoporous hydroxyapatite was synthesized by using #hydrothermaltechnique. Decyltrimethylammonium bromide (C10TAB) surfactant was used as template for the formation of nanoporous structure in the hydroxyapatite. The presence of pure hydroxyapatite phase in the synthesized samples is verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The nanoporous hydroxyapatite samples exhibit pore size of 18.5-33.5nm, BET surface area of 39.5-84.6 m2 g-1 and pore volume of 0.35-0.44 cm3g-1. The#hemolysis test shows that the nanoporous hydroxyapatite samples are highly #hemocompatible with the percentage of hemolysis less than 5 %. This study reveals the effectiveness of the #hydrothermaltechnique for producing nanoporous hydroxyapatite targeted for adsorption based biomedical applications.

Abstract

The group of #chronicdelusional psychosis systematized had multiple elaborations raised by the French and German psychiatry nineteenth and early twentieth century. Psychoses are characterized by permanent delusions. Are considered delusions not only the beliefs and conceptions by which express the themes of delirious fiction, namely persecution, grandeur, jealousy but also ideoafetivos phenomena in which the delirium takes body as intuitions, #illusions, interpretations, #hallucinations, imaginative and passionate exaltation. These delusions cannot be conceived as simple errors in judgment [1]. In nosography Kraepelin and later with the works of Bleuler, many of these delusions became part of schizophrenia. Meanwhile, France has remained true to the description of chronic delusions outside the group of schizophrenia. The diagnostic and therapeutic point of view, it is important to resume the classification of chronic delusional psychotic disorders proposed by the #Frenchnosography.

Abstract

A significant body of evidence supports the notion that higher levels of serum phosphate are associated with poor survival [1-3]. Similar outcome data have been reported in end stage #renaldisease (ESRD) as well as individuals with various degree of renal function impairment [1-3]. However, the lack of randomized clinical trial (RCT) and a certain degree of heterogeneity among different studies in this domain preclude the definition of what is the optimal range of serum phosphate to target in different chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages [1-3]. Phosphorus is an essential element for life. It is a key factor in #energymetabolism being a fundamental constituent of #adenosinetriphosphate (ATP) [2]. Similarly, phosphate is a core element of #deoxyribonucleicacid (DNA) as well as a #cellmembranes.

Abstract

#Nutrigenetics testing undoubtedly is an important part in #clinicalpractice. Each patient has a combination of the genes bound to cardiovascular illnesses. We represent step-by-step the projection of Nutrigenetics tests for cardiologists. We represent the multiplex DNA system with technology of the effective #analysis of #genes. The technology of the effective genes analysis is the combined method of the sequential analysis, ROC-curve and relative risk of RR (Altman’s theorem) with use of basic mathematical algorithms (Bayes’ theorem) in diagnostics of #in vitro. For the first time we applied this technology for identification of genes mutations which enlarge a susceptibility to rising of weight, and also sensitivities to some ions. Thus, using DNA identification, the developed algorithm can recommend an individual diet.

Abstract

In times of day, children are usually well-mannered and show the necessary cooperation in various fields. A #dentist must consider certain hours to provide dental care for children. The factors which are influential in this area at the onset of #dentalcare include: feeding, thirst, the need to go to the bathroom, preparing children to go to the dentist by parents, complete dentist’s preparation for dental care, and having appropriate clothing for children during #dentalprocedures. If these are taken into account, dental care goes well and will facilitate the progressing. It should be noted that non-compliance with this aspect will lead the child’s moodiness, tantrum and will cause increased #anxiety and stress in children.

#Anaerobiccontribution can quickly decrease, even in shorter time line events (20-30 sec, 200m running, 50m swimming). Previous authors have demonstrated aerobic contributions between 29 and 40% for various levels of athlete over this time course in a range of exercise types (Running, cycling swimming rowing). We have developed methods that #demonstrate better clarification of systemic use and wished to understand these differences during competition conditions. 440 subjects (299 Male & 141 Female) volunteered to take part in this study and were drawn from a number of national events. #Bloodlactate and #glucose were tested immediately post swim until a peak of each #parameterwas found. Swim time and stroke parameters were also collected for each swim. Data were collected in all event distances (50m 100m 200m 400m 800m & 1500m).

Abstract

Amyloidosis has been regarded as a rare disease, however, recent reports demonstrated that the prevalence of wild type ATTR amyloidosis is up to 25% in elderly persons aged 80 years or older. Progressive conduction disease is common in ATTR amyloidosis and approximately 20- 40% of patients with amyloidosis is estimated to require the #pacemakerimplantation. However, the diagnosis of amyloidosis in these patients would be underestimated because the invasive #biopsy for the #diagnosis is often hesitated in elderly persons. Therefore, it is ideal to perform the invasive biopsy to diagnose #amyloidosis at the timing of pacemaker implantation. We here report the case that the #subclavianfatbiopsy with the pacemaker implantation was useful for the diagnosis of amyloidosis.

Abstract

In #cellularphysiology and functional biology, the suffix –ome refers to “all constituents considered together and as a mix”. During the last decade the omics development have significantly changed the face of fundamental and clinical biology for diagnostics and clinical treatment. By building bridges to #cellbiology, Omics technologies are no longer limited any more to research laboratories but started to be applied in clinical biology for prognostic and diagnostic [1]. For example, fast moving advances in next generation sequencing technologies makes human sequence datasets widely available and this represents a #fundamentalshift from basic research to clinical application. #Genomics has already moved to the clinic and combining medical records with genome sequences offers tantalizing possibilities for the future of medicine [2]. IVF omes and omics are becoming promising technologies that personalize patient management and improve success rates [3,4].

Abstract

The main reason of #postmenopausalosteoporosis is high bone turnover due to increased #osteoclasticaction. Strontium Ranelate is a new drug that is used for the treatment of postmenopausal #osteoporosis. We searched PubMed in May 2016 using the terms ‘Strontium ranelate’ for experimental study and review articles. The result from the studies that we have conciliated show: Strontium ranelate enhances bone resistance and increases the bone formation. Strontium ranelate has been shown to increase bone apposition rates and bone mineral density while maintaining the quality of bone mineral; but it has no effect on #mineralization. Evidence from in vitro and in vitro studies present the evidence that strontium ranelate is able to inhibit the osteoclasts resorbing activity, decreased osteoclastic differentiation (Prevention of differentiation of blood #monocyte and pre-osteoclasts into osteoclasts) and increase apoptosis of osteoclasts.

#Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease of #joints and leading cause of joint pain resulting from #subchondralbone hypertrophy and #inflammation. Although, many researches have been focused to overcome the articular cartilage, the latter has proven to be a very difficult tissue to repair defeating researchers, surgeons, and patients. Numerous surgical techniques have been developed to address focal cartilage defects. One area that seems encouraging is cell-based therapies based on stem cells to promote #cartilage repair. Several human body tissues contain #mesenchymalstemcells from where these can be harvested and cultured. This review summarises autologous #chondrocytesimplantation, first generation, second generation, third generation and recent clinical trials on mesenchymal stem cells implantation.
